I rubbed the metal grating and dipped new q-tips 5 times while the "find my earbuds" was running and blasting music on full volume. I took a q-tip, dipped it in isopropyl alcohol (70% trying to not ruin the plastic bits) and rubbed it a bit all over the metal grate and generally around it with the "find my earbuds" was running. Take your Ear Buds, play music on full volume and run the find my earbuds feature. I knew it was the ear bud and not my hearing cause I put my right working ear bud in my left ear and it sounded great.
